Sometimes life needs a hard reset...

The idea for the blog first came to me while I was watching the movie “Up in the Air.”

The movie featured George Clooney as a corporate downsizer and dealt with the devastating effects of job loss – something that I deal with on a regular basis.

Then, there was the issue with a colleague who went home one day to find that his wife of over twenty years had left him and their children. He appeared clueless; had not seen it coming. In the scheme of things, the reasons would have been purely academic.

And there was my niece whose baby was diagnosed as terminally ill; Bob, a friend, who lost his job unexpectedly and had to make drastic changes to his career; a neighbourhood restaurant that failed; and others who had to reboot their lives…

Sometimes life needs a hard reset!

From life and death issues to awkward moments, from anecdotes to opinions, we all have a story or two to tell. Through Reboot Social, I hope to share with you some of my own personal experiences along with contributions from friends who have had to deal with unexpected situations of their own. Since its launch, the blog has evolved to include some broader topics that I feel will appeal to our readers.

The posts are deliberately kept short – 1200 words or less – with the odd exception, and can be read in under five minutes. To the extent possible, I will stay clear of politics and religion unless it is a direct experience or opinion that fits the spirit of the blog.

The name of the series is a spin-off of my other blog, Racquet Social, which seeks to bring racket sports enthusiasts and social media together.

Ironically, there was no life-altering event when I hit the reboot button on my life and moved to Canada, nearly twenty-five years ago. Nevertheless, the move came with its share of social, emotional, and financial uncertainties. As I reflect upon the bygone years, I realize that most of my experiences have been positive. Fitting into the cultural mosaic of Canada came with some challenges which occasionally felt like situation comedies which I shall recount in future posts.

The posts are not meant to be in any chronological or logical order.
